The Bread of Life ~ A Place To Make A Difference

Here, at the Bread of Life, we are grateful to work with so many caring individuals, churches, organizations, and corporations. Their commitment to love and serve those in need, enables us to reach so many more individuals within our community than we could ever hope to reach on our own.

When you choose to give of your time and talents, you show others what love in action looks like ~ and it is beautiful! We welcome you to join us. You can choose to serve individually or as a group. You may already have an idea of the way you would like to serve, perhaps through a specific skill or service you possess. Or, you may have no idea what you can do to help but you have a willing heart to serve. Great! There are many ways to get involved! Scroll down to learn about a few.

Ways To Be Love In Action

Meals Ministry – consider getting friends, family, or co-workers together to plan and prepare a hot dinner meal to serve approximately 60 people. Meals are prepared at home and transported ready to serve at the Bread of Life. Hot dinners are offered nightly Sundays through Fridays.

Food Program – we have a food pantry that distributes boxes of food to individuals from 9am-noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Guests receiving these services often need prayer and help carrying the boxes to their vehicles. Additionally, on the last Thursday of each month we host a parking lot distribution program in conjunction with the San Diego Food Bank. We need servants to assist with set up, food distribution, and tear down.

Life Skills Academy (coming soon) – Our Life Skills Academy really gives those in need a helping hand up. This application based program selects qualified individuals to participate. Selected candidates receive training and education needed to secure employment and permanent housing. We need servants and organizations that are willing to come alongside these individuals to offer trades and technical training through on-the-job apprentice programs. We need servants who enjoy teaching basic skills surrounding household management and budgeting, filling out job applications and how to interview well. We also need biblical life coaches who can provide loving encouragement and assist students in achieving their goals through an individualized coursework plan.

Restore Thrift Store – Open Monday through Friday 9am – 4pm, our newly opened thrift store provides opportunity for servants to receive and sort donations; assist with keeping the store tidy by organizing racks, dusting and vacuuming; greeting customers and assisting them whether it be to purchase an item or simply to listen, pray, or offer a word of encouragement.

Community Clean Up – We appreciate our community neighbors and want to be a good neighbor in return. You can join us on the third Saturday of each month as we organize into teams who clear the neighborhood of trash and debris. It is a simple act of kindness and consideration that goes a long way in fostering positive relationships!

Still not sure where you fit in? That’s okay – we are certain that we have a place for you. We invite you to fill out our Servant Application .  Our servant coordinator will follow up with you. NOTE: when applying as a group, one person may complete the application for all members within the group.
