Meals Ministry

Bread of Life currently serves a hot evening meal to the poor and homeless each day except Saturday.  Dinner is served at approximately 6:00. Volunteers should arrive with food fully prepared by 5:45. There is minimal cleanup required and most groups finish by 7:30 PM.

Meals are typically served cafeteria-style to our guests. Bread of Life provides serving utensils (we recommend you leave yours at home to avoid having them misplaced!), paper plates, and plastic utensils.  A representative from Bread of Life supervises the entire dinner operation, and provides orientation and guidance to all volunteers.

Typically, a volunteer group provides a fully prepared meal, including a main dish, a side dish, and a salad – in quantity sufficient for at least 120-140 people. Steam table and crock-pots are available at the mission to keep food warm. Bread of Life receives regular donations of bread and baked goods; therefore it is not necessary to provide bread.  As a volunteer group, you are welcome to develop a menu of your own choice.  We do ask, however, that you serve the same main dish to everyone. The mission provides coffee and punch with each meal. If your group is able to provide bottled water, soda, or milk, these items are always greatly appreciated by our guests!
